The Central Government has approved an additional 10,29,957 rural homes for Maharashtra under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) for the financial year 2025–26, taking the total sanctioned homes for the state under the scheme to 44,70,829, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in a post on social media platform X.
Fadnavis, expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said the latest approval reflects the government’s commitment to “building a self-reliant rural Maharashtra.”
Speaking at the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) Labharthi Melava’ and the ‘Maha Awas Abhiyan Rajyastariya Award Ceremony’ in Pune, Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s distinction as the first state in India to receive a record allocation of 30 lakh houses under PMAY-G, based on the 2011 Homeless Survey List.
“Under the leadership of Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji, the Central Government launched PMAY to end rural homelessness. In 2017, recognising the shortfall in Maharashtra’s original allocation, we formally requested an increase. The Centre responded positively, allowing additional registrations under the Awas Plus scheme. This led to the registration of 30 lakh homeless individuals,” Fadnavis wrote in a post on X.
He noted that in the first phase, 20 lakh houses were approved, and the first instalment for 10 lakh homes has already been disbursed by the Rural Development Department. A total investment of Rs 80,000 crore is now being made in rural Maharashtra. Every house will be equipped with solar systems, ensuring free electricity for life, stated Fadnavis in his post.
Additionally, the Maharashtra government is offering a Rs 50,000 supplementary grant per house and has assured uninterrupted funding for construction. Fadnavis also announced that a fresh survey is underway to identify and include new beneficiaries, ensuring no eligible family is left homeless. Landless families are also being supported with Rs 1 lakh land purchase grants, he claimed.
“The mission is ambitious yet simple — a roof over every head and a homelessness-free Maharashtra,” Fadnavis added.
Alongside Fadnavis and Chouhan, the event was attended by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Ministers Jaykumar Gore, Bharat Gogawale, MoS Yogesh Kadam, and other dignitaries. They handed over the keys to houses to several beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana at the event.
