Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, the second phase of this significant afforestation initiative, "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0", recently concluded with great success in Bhusawal, Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, reported news agency ANI.
The event was led by Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. She was joined by Sanjay Savkare, Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, alongside key government officials and enthusiastic community members, ensuring a truly collaborative effort.
Distinguished participants included Ayush Prasad (District Collector, Jalgaon), Sangeeta Biyani, Sachin Nandre, Ashok Kumar (District Youth Officer, Jalgaon), Bhushan Patil (District Youth Officer, Nandurbar), Sachin Panjhade (Block Development Officer, Bhusawal), Sunil Panje (Accounts and Program Assistant, Jalgaon), Sandeep More (Assistant Project Officer), Bhaiya Mahajan (Sarpanch, Chorwad), Deepak Bhole, Virendra Patil (Gram Panchayat Member), Ravi Gunjal, Mayur Mandhare, Mohan Chaudhary, Vikas Navkar, and Rahul Patil (Gram Sevak, Chorwad).
According to ANI, the afforestation drive was a joint undertaking by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the District Administration Jalgaon, and My Bharat, Jalgaon. Over 2,000 native saplings, including species such as Kadu Badam, Tamarind, Neem, Amla, and Shisham, were planted by keen students and volunteers. This initiative aims to bolster local biodiversity and tackle pressing environmental concerns like soil erosion, declining groundwater levels, and rising temperatures, all exacerbated by inadequate forest cover.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister of State Raksha Nikhil Khadse highlighted the profound cultural and ecological significance of tree planting. She quoted the revered Saint Tukaram Maharaj, stating, "Vrukshavalli Aamha Soyare, He Vishwachi Maze Ghar" (Trees are our kin, this world is my home), and passionately urged all citizens to "Plant trees, save trees! Cultivate a life of joy!"
A standout feature of this initiative was the robust involvement of National Service Scheme (NSS) units from several Bhusawal educational institutions. These included PO Nahata College, PK Kotecha Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Chaitanya Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya Sakegaon, DDN Bhole College, Godavari Nursing College, Industrial Training Institute, Biyani Military School, and Rajaram Dhondu Secondary Vidyalaya.
Moreover, their active participation was instrumental in strengthening the region's green infrastructure and promoting community-driven environmental protection efforts.
