As part of the admission cycle for Class 11 (FYJC) for the academic year 2025–26, the government introduced an "Open to All" round on August 4 and 5, 2025.

During this phase, students were allowed to complete new registrations, make corrections to existing applications, fill out forms after passing supplementary exams, and submit their preference order of colleges and streams.

A total of 3,81,420 students finalised their preferences during this round. Of these, 22,855 students applied under the management quota, while 8,431 students did so under the minority quota. In terms of stream preference, Science emerged as the most popular choice with 1,75,334 students opting for it, followed by Arts (96,003) and Commerce (77,447).

Based on the submitted preferences, 3,48,784 students have been allotted seats in junior colleges as of August 6. Those allotted seats must confirm their admissions by reporting to the respective junior colleges or higher secondary schools between 11:30 AM on August 6 and 6:30 PM on August 8, 2025.

As per a directive issued by the Maharashtra government, all junior colleges in the state must begin Class 11 sessions by August 11, 2025. Colleges were notified about this schedule earlier through a letter sent on May 19, 2025.

Students, parents, and educational institutions are urged to take note of these important dates and ensure the timely completion of the admission process.

A total of 9,525 junior colleges are participating in this process, offering a combined intake capacity of 21,50,130 seats. So far, from June to August, the response has been substantial; 14,55,945 students have registered for online admissions, and 8,82,081 students have already confirmed their seats at junior colleges.

Maharashtra Education Department reverses minority seat surrender decision

Backtracking on its decision to auto-surrender unfilled minority seats, the Maharashtra Education Department has now allowed minority colleges to retain their reserved seats while admissions are underway. This follows an earlier directive asking minority colleges to surrender unfilled minority quota seats by August 2, after the fourth merit list.

Concerned about losing its minority quota seats, Mumbai’s Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts, Science & Commerce filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court. “We filed the petition on August 4 to safeguard the rights of minority institutes as enshrined in Article 30 of the Constitution of India, which reads: ‘Right of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions.’ Thankfully, the state has realised that the rights of minorities can’t be curtailed and has withdrawn the communication that was challenged before the Bombay High Court,” said Adv Ravleen Kaur Sabharwal, legal representative of Khalsa College.

Stakeholders from other colleges also welcomed the move and have resumed admissions. Having filled over 50 per cent of its seats, KC College, a Sindhi minority institution, began FYJC classes for all three streams on Monday. “We’ve heaved a sigh of relief now that the decision has been withdrawn. Initially, several students were unable to submit their OTPs on time, which made it difficult for us to collate their details on the portal. Now, we can help students navigate the OTP process and other steps to secure their admissions before the deadline,” said Principal Tejashree Shanbhag.
