The NCC Inter Directorate Sports Shooting competition began today at the Sambhaji Maharaj Krida Sankul in Kolhapur, under the guidance of the Kolhapur NCC Group Headquarters. The week-long championship is being held with technical and professional support from officials of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), an official statement said.

Top NCC cadet shooters from across India have gathered to take part in the event. They will be competing in various categories of rifle and pistol shooting. The competition is not only about winning medals but also aims to encourage sportsmanship, focus, and discipline among cadets. It also helps identify talented marksmen who can go on to represent the country in national and international shooting events, the statement, issued by the Defence PRO n Saturday said.

It said that the opening ceremony was attended by Brigadier R K Paithankar, Group Commander of Kolhapur NCC Group, along with senior NCC officers, local dignitaries, and sports officials.

In his speech, Brig Paithankar spoke about the value of shooting as a sport, saying it builds concentration, patience, and mental strength.

He expressed hope that the competition would inspire cadets to aim higher in the sport while living up to the NCC’s motto - Unity and Discipline.

The Sambhaji Maharaj Krida Sankul, equipped with modern shooting facilities, has been made ready to host the event in line with national safety and shooting standards, the statement said.

The championship also provides cadets with a chance to meet peers from other regions and build inter-directorate friendships, promoting unity among the youth from different parts of India, it said.
