Not quite ho hum

Here's a new eatery for a weekend lunch that might make you go 'Oh My God', though the multi-cuisine menu is nothing too exciting Amusement is what I felt when for the first time I heard the name of the new restaurant Oh My God (OMG). In fact, while we were stepping into the eatery on the Residency Road, I was wondering if I would exclaim Oh My God out of disgust or happiness after the experience. Soon we found ourselves entering a slightly garishly lit elevator with mirrors on all sides to travel up to the fourth floor restaurant OMG, the new restaurant housed in the Seagrape Gardens Hotel.But a pleasant surprise awaited us. Semi-formal in get up, the staff at OMG ushered us onto a shaded terrace surrounded by greenery and Kans grass with cane chairs strewn all around. The corner was so welcoming that we declined the offer of sitting inside and chose a table instead on the terrace. There is nothing spectacular and innovative in what OMG offers both in terms of menu and decor. Offering the standard Indian, Continental and Chinese dishes and alcohol, OMG may come across as any other multi-cuisine restaurant. But once in, both the food and the ambience win you over making OMG, the ideal place to have a relaxed weekend meal with friends or family.Wasting no time and not wanting to kill our hunger with any alcohol or mocktail, we opted for West Lake Thick Fish Soup (Rs 150). Originating from Hangzhou in China, the clear and thick soup had a distinct flavour enhanced by dropped egg whites and loads of fish, sprinkled with coriander leaves and boiled carrots. Appetizing to both throat and tongue, this soup is a must-have here. Next we decided to go for Chicken Satay (Rs 200), which also met our expectations. Grilled to perfection with the right amounts of garlic, cumin, coriander and peanuts, the Chicken Satay served with a spicy peanut sauce and sweet chilly sauce was succulent and spicy with the peanuts imparting a strong nutty flavour to the chicken.Happy and fulfilled, we decided to keep the main course simple. The mixed fried rice (Rs 150) came filled with crispy prawns and chicken shreds, is something that you can eat without any accompaniment. But nevertheless, we chose Tofu in Black Pepper Sauce (Rs 150) and Chilly Fish in Mustard Sauce (Rs 250) to go with. Thankfully, both the dishes did not disappoint us.While the tofu soaked in pepper and soya sauce was not too hot, the sweet and slightly sour fish dipped in chilly, tomato and mustard gravy was a novel flavour to our palates. By this time, we were too filled and satisfied to indulge our sweet tooth and decided to keep the sundaes, gulab jamuns and pudding for some other time. But soon a sweet surprise came our way. We were served a complimentary piece of Chocolate Ceramic Cake, since the restaurant is new. A sign of goodwill probably. The cake was one chocolate flavoured creamy concoction served in layers with loads of chocolate shavings for company.
