Days after the attack on CJI by the advocate, the Chairman of the Odisha State Bar Council, Sitanshu Mohan Dwibedi, strongly condemned the attempt to hurl. On Thursday, the CJI criticised the advocate’s move to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai. He further stressed that no advocate is above the law.
While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Dwibedi said, "The Odisha State Bar Council has condemned the issue. No advocate is above the law. The judiciary is the temple of justice, and the judge and the advocate are two sides of the same coin," as cited by news agency ANI.
Dwibedi further highlighted that in connection with the incident, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has already taken disciplinary action. He emphasised, "In a related case, the Bar Council of India has suspended the license of the concerned advocate and is initiating disciplinary proceedings," as cited by news agency ANI.
On the other hand, Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Chitna Mohan on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai. He called it an unprecedented and deeply distressing incident in the history of the country.
While demanding strict action against those responsible for the attack, Mohan argued that the attack on CJI Gavai sets a "bad precedent" and was reflective of the condition of the Scheduled Castes in the country.
Most political leaders have condemned the attack on CJI Gavai.
Rakesh Kishore, a 71-year-old lawyer, entered Court Room 1 of the Supreme Court of India on Monday and attempted to throw an object at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai. He was promptly arrested by security guards and led out of the building.
According to sources, while being removed, the lawyer stated, "Sanatan ka apman nahi sahega Hindustan."
Following the incident, the Bar Council of India (BCI) ordered Kishore's immediate suspension of practice on Monday after prima facie evidence indicated that he allegedly removed his sports shoes and attempted to hurl them at the Chief Justice of India during proceedings in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court at approximately 11:35 am.
