Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 17 projects and lay foundation stones for 14 others in Manipur on Saturday, officials said on Friday.
A total amount of about Rs 8,500 crore will be invested, the officials said, adding that of this, projects worth Rs 7,300 crore will have foundation stones laid in Churachandpur from Peace Ground, while projects worth Rs 1,200 crore will be inaugurated from Kangla Fort in Imphal. The funding is intended for both state and central government schemes.
The Prime Minister, who will come from Aizawl, Mizoram, will first visit Churachandpur. There he will meet internally displaced persons (IDPs), mainly from the Kuki-Zo tribal communities. He will lay foundation stones for infrastructure across the state and address public gatherings from both Churachandpur and Imphal.
Some of the projects to be inaugurated include -- Manipur Bhawan buildings in Dwarka (New Delhi) and Salt Lake (Kolkata), new police headquarters and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) building at Mantripukhri, Imphal West, “Ima Markets” (women-only markets) in Tengnoupal, Noney, Pallel and Moirang, a 4-lane bridge over the Irang River on National Highway‑38 at Noney and an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Tokpa; and the Loktak Project in Churachandpur, according to the IANS.
The foundation‑stone projects include improvements to roads and drainage systems in cities, an Infotech Development Project in Imphal, upgrading National Highway 102A, working‑women hostels across nine locations, strengthening 120 high schools and higher secondary schools in all 16 districts, and expanding super speciality health care in remote hilly districts, the IANS reported.
PM Modi will also visit Mizoram and will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects worth over Rs 9000 crore at Aizawl. These projects will cater to multiple sectors including Railways, Roadways, Energy, Sports among others, an official statement said.
It said that PM Modi will inaugurate the Bairabi-Sairang New Rail line, worth over Rs 8,070 crore, connecting the capital of Mizoram to the Indian Railways network for the first time. The Rail line Project, built in a challenging hilly area, has 45 tunnels constructed under complex geological conditions. Additionally, it also includes 55 major bridges and 88 minor bridges. The direct rail connectivity between Mizoram and the rest of the country will offer the people of the region safe, efficient, and cost-effective travel options. It will also ensure the timely and reliable supply of food grains, fertilizers, and other essential commodities, thereby enhancing overall logistical efficiency and regional accessibility.
The Prime Minister will also flag off three new express trains, Sairang (Aizawl)-Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal) Rajdhani express, Sairang-Guwahati Express and Sairang-Kolkata Express on this occasion. Aizawl will now be directly connected with Delhi through a Rajdhani Express. The Sairang-Guwahati Express will facilitate movement between Mizoram and Assam. Sairang-Kolkata Express will directly connect Mizoram to Kolkata. This enhanced connectivity will improve access to hospitals, universities, and markets, thereby strengthening educational, cultural, and economic ties across the region. It will also generate employment opportunities, and significantly boost tourism in the region, it further said.
