A train from the city to Borivli station in Mumbai could soon be a reality and the official announcement is expected after the rail budget is tabled.
Though the number of services is yet to be decided, the route will be via Kurla. Since Borivli station falls on the Western line, commuters travelling to Mumbai alight at Dadar and then take a connecting train to Borivli.
“Both Central and Western line cross at Kurla station. So it will be convenient to make arrangement for Pune-Borivli train. Apart from having minor infrastructure, planning and rescheduling of current trains to adjust the upcoming Pune-Borivli trains is all we need to do.

The plan is almost ready and approved by railway authority. It is likely to be introduced soon. The number of trains, their timings and other details are not yet decided,” a railway official said.
President of the Pune Pravasi Group Harsha Shaha said for a long time they have been demanding a direct train to Borivli. “Considering the huge rush on the Western line, it is almost impossible to travel around with luggage.
So instead of changing trains at Dadar, people prefer to travel by bus. It takes about six to seven hours due to heavy traffic jams on the Western Express Highway,” Shaha said She said the train would also prove beneficial for commuters wanting to catch flights from the Mumbai airport.
“It will be convenient for such commuters if railway authorities provides a halt at Santacruz or Vile Parle, which are close to the airport,” Shaha said.u00a0
