Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is showing steady improvement in her health and is likely to be discharged from the hospital within the next one to two days, according to doctors on Friday, reported news agency PTI.
The 79-year-old Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital late on March 24 after developing a fever. Since then, her condition has stabilised, and she is responding well to treatment.
Doctors Report Stable Condition and Smooth Recovery
Hospital Chairman Ajay Swaroop confirmed that Gandhi’s health has improved significantly, reported PTI.
He stated that she is comfortable, able to walk, and has resumed normal activities such as having breakfast. Doctors described her recovery as smooth and expressed optimism that she will soon be fit enough to return home, reported PTI.
Medical teams attending to her have indicated that she is undergoing treatment for a systemic infection and is responding positively to antibiotics.
Under Close Medical Supervision as Precaution
Gandhi continues to remain under the supervision of a team of senior doctors, including specialists overseeing her treatment and recovery. While her condition is stable and not considered serious, doctors have advised a short period of observation as a precautionary measure, reported PTI.
The hospital had earlier confirmed that she is being treated under expert care and is showing consistent signs of recovery.
Previous Health Concerns and Hospital Visits
This is not the first time the veteran leader has been hospitalised in recent years. She was admitted in June last year for stomach-related issues and was kept under observation in the gastroenterology department.
Earlier that same month, she had also been hospitalised at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for medical evaluation.
Despite these health concerns, Gandhi has continued to remain an active figure in national politics.
Leaders Extend Wishes for Speedy Recovery
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah extended his wishes for her recovery, expressing concern over her hospitalisation.
In a message posted on social media, he conveyed confidence that Sonia Gandhi would overcome her current health issue and return to good health soon.
The Congress leader’s improving condition has brought relief to party members and supporters, with doctors indicating that her recovery remains on track and discharge is expected shortly.
