A 30-member team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) began a survey on Monday at the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. They aim to determine if the mosque was built on top of an ancient Hindu temple. However, following an order from a Chief Justice of India-led Supreme Court bench, the survey work was halted for two days. The survey will resume only after 5 pm on Wednesday, the top court directed, adding that no excavation or invasive work would be undertaken by ASI officials on the mosque premises.
