While speaking to American troops at a military base in Qatar, US President Donald Trump claimed that the US had helped settle the problem between India and Pakistan. Trump said, “I don’t wanna say I did, but I sure as hell helped settle the problem between Pakistan and India last week.” He also added how trade was one of the talking points for reaching a ceasefire. “Let’s do trade instead of war. And we talked to them about trade. Let’s do trade instead of war. And Pakistan was very happy with that and India was very happy with that, and I think they are on the way,” he said. On the day the ceasefire was announced, Trump claimed credit for it in a social media post: “India and Pakistan agreed for a ceasefire after long nights of talks mediated by the US,” he had tweeted.
