Indian Forces To Get Emergency Powers For Acquiring Critical Equipment Through Fast-Track Route

In a bid to further strengthen operational preparedness, India is expected to allow defence forces to acquire critical equipment under emergency acquisition powers. Under this, Indian forces can acquire any new or in-service equipment on fast-track basis without the MoD`s approval. The grant of emergency acquisition powers to forces is expected to come after a high-level Defence Ministry meeting. The meeting will be held on Monday. The powers were first granted to Indian forces post-Uri surgical strikes in 2016. It has helped to tackle the military standoff with China. In the previous approvals, Indian forces had power to sign deals for equipment worth Rs 300 crore. The products are expected to be delivered within a period of three months to one year. Earlier, Indian forces acquired these equipment on a fast-track basis. `Heron` unmanned aerial vehicles have now been deployed in Ladakh as well as in northeast. `HAMMER` missiles can hit hardened ground attack-guide bunkers from a long distance. `Sig Sauer` assault rifles have been inducted into all three forces now. Spike Anti-tank guided missiles. Indian forces will now acquire both indigenous as well as foreign manufactured products.
