The Bar Council of India has resolved to request the Supreme Court to leave the issue of same-sex marriage to legislative process for wide spread consultation, saying that the matter is "highly sensitive" and having "social, religious and cultural connotations". Advocate and Chairman of Bar Council of India, Manan Kumar Mishra on April 24 talked to the media regarding the issue of same sex marriage in India. He said, “Nation’s socio-religious culture does not allow such a thing. It is a matter for the Parliament to decide and not the Courts.
