The vertical drilling to rescue the 41 workers trapped inside Uttarkashi`s Silkyara tunnel began on the afternoon of November 26 as the rescue operation entered its 15th day in the Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse. The development came after a plasma cutter was flown in from Hyderabad. The plasma cutter was bought to cut and remove parts of the auger machine stuck in the rubble. In the latest update, the front part of the American Auger machine which was stuck in the pipeline was completely cut with a plasma cutter on November 27. Efforts are also being made to remove the debris and the front part of the machine. In the process of cutting and removing the American Auger machine, a 2-meter portion of the last part of the pipeline (i.e. 48 to 50 meters) has also been twisted. A team of 6 people who are basically civilian workers and labourers, all of them will enter the pipeline that has been laid inside the tunnel and carry out the work of manual drilling of the remaining part. These people will carry a drilling machine, a hammer, a shovel, a trowel, and oxygen as a life support system. Amid the ongoing rescue operation, a member of the National Disaster Management Authority, Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) held a Press Conference in the national capital on November 26 and said that all the trapped workers are safe and all the basic necessities are being sent to them.
