On Thursday, the White House said that members of former President Donald Trump’s cabinet are working with staff from the Department of Government Efficiency at different federal agencies to support ongoing efforts. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that cabinet secretaries have been closely collaborating with Elon Musk and will continue working with the political appointees—nicknamed “Doge employees”—who joined these agencies. Elon Musk recently distanced himself from the Trump administration, leading investors to hope he’ll now focus more on his businesses. Tesla is facing falling sales, and SpaceX’s latest rocket launch didn’t meet expectations. Musk had also led the controversial Department of Government Efficiency, which was created to reduce government spending.
