A thief made off with a one million pound emerald ring accidently left by a Swiss jeweller in the bathroom of a Hong Kong hotel, The Telegraph reported Wednesday.

The Hong Kong police are searching for the thief.u00a0It took only minutes for Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, the co-president of the high end outlet Chopard, to realise she had lost the treasured possession.

Gruosi-Scheufele, 49, reported that she had last seen the ring when she took it off at 11.24 p.m. in the bathroom of the Four Seasons Hotel's Harbour View ballroom but it was gone at 11.31 p.m. when she returned.

The ring features a 16.83 carat emerald sitting between two diamonds of 1.15 and 1.29 carats, with another 674 small diamonds around the band.u00a0Hong Kong police classified the act as theft and posted a reward for the million pound trophy, the newspaper said.

The South China Morning Post said the theft occurred Sep 8 last year when Miss Gruosi-Scheufele was in Hong Kong to celebrate the opening of a new store. Chopard was established as a watchmaker in 1860 but has produced a jewellery range since 1990 and has signed the actress Uma Thurman to wear its products, the Telegraph added.
