A retired priest reportedly bit off a clergyman's ear in a brawl over a parking spot in Perth, Australia
According to police, Father Thomas Byrne, 80, told Father Thomas Smith, 81, to pick the flesh up off the ground and put it in his pocket after the fight, the Daily Mail reported.
It was only when Smith returned to his retirement flat and pulled it out of his pocket that he realized that it was his right ear.
Smith wrapped it in a tea towel and drove to a local medical centre, where staff called for an ambulance and police.
It appeared that Byrne had also suffered a bruising in the fight, as he appeared in East Perth’s Magistrates Court, sporting a black eye.
Police prosecutor Chris Lawler said Byrne did not have a police record but he had concerns for the safety of the victim, if bail was approved for the accused.
“They live in the same complex but they are both funded by the Catholic Church,” Lawler told the court.
Magistrate Greg Benn imosed strict bail conditions on Byrne, which included an order not to go within 10 yards of Father Smith, nor act in a violent or threatening manner towards him.
