The fire gutted the family's suburban home leaving a damage bill of Aus$ 1 million (Rs 3.5 crore). The mother of three allegedly set her husband on fire while he slept after she learnt he was having an affair.

The prosecutor opposed bail because of the seriousness of the alleged offence, particularly its premeditation. According to AAP, the magistrate also ordered the mother of three to accept any psychiatric assessment, monitoring, counselling and treatment considered appropriate.

Last Monday, prosecutors had told the court that Rajni confessed to neighbours that she had set her 47-year-old husband, Satish Narayan, alight while he slept after discovering her husband's infidelity.

She reportedly told her neighbours she was a "jealous wife" and that her husband's "penis should belong to her".

She allegedly said, "I just wanted to burn his penis, so it belongs to me and no one else... I didn't mean this
to happen."

The magistrate ordered Rajni to provide a personal undertaking of Aus $5,000 (Rs 1.7 lakh) and two guarantors to provide $5,000 each if she failed to attend court.u00a0

The mother was not prevented from seeing her children, but was ordered to surrender her passport, if it was not destroyed in the fire.
