A chance remark by the wayward Union Sports Minister MS Gill that the capital be renamed as Dilli has again revived the hoary arguments that raged when the names of Bombay, Madras, Calcutta and Bangalore were indigenised. But a battle of names may be the last thing on Delhi CM Shiela Dikshit's mind as she readies the capital to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Delhi's warring fashion camps have ample reason to rejoice. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Fashion Foundation of India (FFI), have finally agreed on just one fashion week per season. The government-backed Fashion Design Promotion Council (FDPC) headed by Vijay Singh hopes that all designers will now become a part of FDPC.
The Van Heusen India Men's Week to be held in Delhi will perhaps be the first event to be launched collaboratively. This week expects to showcase everything associated with men and fashion apparel and accessories in about 15 shows. The fash frat's two big organisational strongmen Sunil Sethi and Vijay will now work logistics out.
The FDCI and FDPC collaboration sure promises a lot of action. But does this mean that the woes of the warring frats are over? Only time and the consistency of the mantri will ultimately tell.
