Beirut: At least 45 people were killed and around 110 others wounded in three bomb blasts near a revered Shia shrine in south of the Syrian capital Damascus.

The Express Tribune reported 'two terrorist blasts, one of them a car bomb, followed by a suicide bomber in the area of Sayyida Zeinab'.

The cause of the second blast was not immediately clear.

State news agency SANA initially reported that 30 people were killed in the three blasts, which it said were caused by a car bomb and two suicide bombers.

The Sayyida Zeinab mosque contains the grave of a granddaughter of the Prophet Mohammed and is particularly revered as a pilgrimage site by Shia Muslims.

This mosque was earlier attacked in February 2015.
