Chechya war hero commits suicide in Moscow

A Chechnya war veteran decorated with the country's highest military honour "Hero Of Russia" committed suicide in his apartment here today.


Colonel (retd) Valentin Polyansky of the elite airborne troops shot himself with a gifted pistol shortly after 4 a.m. this morning, according to local media reports.


Last November, he was acquitted in two cases against him for alleged use of force against police and insulting government officials.
