Dr Sinclair's son Karl was blown away when he was made privy to the news. The full birth certificate released by the White House showed Obama was delivered by Dr David A Sinclair at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynaecological Hospital in Honolulu. Karl said the doctor died in Hawaii in 2003 when he was in his 80s.
"I was floored when I heard this," Karl said. "I'm a Barack supporter so it made me proud, and it would have made my Dad proud. He was a Democrat. I wish he was alive today."

He further elaborated, "He delivered tons of babies, there weren't too many gynaecologists around in those days. He was a very humble guy, and the type of guy who, if the patient couldn't pay, he would deliver anyway. We're going to have a big family celebration. It's a big day for our family."

Sinclair said his father would not have known Obama's name because the politician only appeared on the national stage after his death. Obama was elected to the US Senate in 2004.

On oprah
President Obama told Oprah Winfrey on Wednesday that he was driven to release his long-form birth certificate so that the nation could move on and focus on a "serious conversation" about solving its problems.
