Pak TV host arrested for bringing firearm during sting op

A well-known host of a Pakistani television news channel was today arrested when he tried to carry out a sting operation to expose security loopholes at the provincial parliament by carrying a firearm to the Sindh Assembly building

Karachi: A well-known host of a Pakistani television news channel was today arrested when he tried to carry out a sting operation to expose security loopholes at the provincial parliament by carrying a firearm to the Sindh Assembly building.

Izhar ul Haq and his team members were arrested from the Sindh Assembly hall after he produced a firearm while a session was underway.


"The team carried out the sting operation to highlight the poor security measures at the parliament building but police have arrested him and his team members," a senior producer at Ary News channel said.



According to television footage, a team member concealed the weapon in his clothing and entered the house. Once inside, he presented the weapon to Izhar who passed it on to the speaker in front of shocked parliamentarians.

Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani demanded an inquiry into the matter while opposition members denounced the poor security arrangements.

Provincial Interior Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal himself requested the Speaker to order the arrest of the TV team which do a weekly show on various issues.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA and Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hasan confronted the speaker about the security arrangements when they were serious threats from banned outfits to politicians and government building.

The channel claimed their team managed to walk into the assembly hall after bribing the security incharge with two bottles of perfumes.
