The investigation began three weeks ago when customs officers discovered over eight kilograms of heroin stashed in a shipment of household goods being sent to a Toronto address, a police statement said yesterday.
Police then "executed five search warrants," which led them to arrest three local individuals and seize 545,000 Canadian dollars (USD 502,000) last week.
Information gathered from the investigation then led police to obtain two more search warrants, uncovering an additional 108 kgs of heroin hidden inside machine parts that had been shipped from Pakistan.
The police also recovered another 100,000 Canadian dollars (USD 92,380), according to a statement from police. The three men arrested were remanded in custody after appearing in court on charges of drug trafficking.
