Three militants of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have reportedly been killed as security personnel foiled an attack on the headquarters of a paramilitary force in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province.
A spokesperson of the paramilitary force, while briefing about the incident, said that “the incident took place during the late hours of Sunday in the Nokundi town of Chagai district when the militants attempted to storm the headquarters of Frontier Corps (FC) after a suicide bomber detonated himself at the main gate,” as cited by news agency PTI.
As per the reports, at least six attackers then further tried to force their way in but were pushed back by security personnel.
The spokesperson also asserted, "The FC Quick Response Force immediately retaliated and killed three terrorists who had managed to enter the headquarters,” as quoted by PTI.
According to sources, BLA militants further targeted another FC outpost in the Gurmakan area of Panjgur, triggering a gunfight with security forces. Unverified reports also suggested several attackers may have been killed in the incident.
Earlier in August, at least 15 militants, including a suicide bomber, were killed and four security personnel were injured in an overnight gunbattle with security forces in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The clash took place in August at Karamzi Stop in the Azam Warsak area in the South Waziristan district bordering Afghanistan.
Acting on prior intelligence, security forces launched an operation to clear the area when a key militant compound, a Markaz (centre point), was seized, and the national flag was hoisted on the site, sources said.
Among the 15 militants killed, several were those who had taken refuge in a nearby mosque. Nine people, including four security personnel, were injured during the exchange of fire, the sources added.
