A Hong Kong court has quashed fraud convictions against Jimmy Lai, 78. Founder of the now-defunct Apple Daily, Lai will stay in prison because he was sentenced to 20 years weeks ago after being convicted in another case.
The conviction overturned on Thursday was from an earlier fraud case regarding rented office space. Lai had earlier been sentenced to five years and nine months in prison in 2022.
