US President Donald Trump said he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next Friday in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. It could be a breakthrough after weeks of expressing frustration that more was not being done to quell the fighting.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed the planned summit between the US and Russian presidents on Saturday, warning that any peace deal excluding Kyiv would lead to “dead solutions”. Touching on Ukrainian anxieties that a direct meeting between the two could marginalise Kyiv and European interests, Zelenskyy said, “Any decisions that are without Ukraine are at the same time decisions against peace. They will not bring anything. These are dead decisions. They will never work.”
