On February 14, 2019, Indrani Mukerjea told a special CBI court that she was ready to undergo a lie-detector test. She submitted a handwritten application conveying her willingness to undergo a polygraph (commonly known as a lie detector) test. Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in August 2015 in connection with the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.
In 2015, Indrani had refused to give her consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to subject her to a lie-detector test, citing she was unwell and mentally disturbed
The case dates back to April 24, 2012 when Sheena Bora, an executive working for Mumbai Metro One based in Mumbai, went missing. In August 2015, Mumbai Police arrested mother Indrani, father Peter Mukerjea, Indrani's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and driver Shyamvar Rai for allegedly abducting and killing Sheena Bora and subsequently burning her corpse. In November 2015, CBI arrested Peter Mukerjea and filed charge sheets against Indrani, ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and Shyamvar Rai
The investigation into the Sheena Bora murder case, which led to Indrani Mukerjea's arrest, was truly sensational. Much before Sheena Bora was killed, her boyfriend Rahul Mukerjea, had documented some of the threats issued by Indrani along with their time and dates, anticipating the worst. Rahul had kept the document with some of his and Sheena's friends with clear instructions, that in case of any untoward incident, the said evidence should reach the police in UK and India. Indrani Mukerjea got tips on carrying out the 'perfect murder' from another case. Indrani had studied the work of another murderer, Vijay Palande, and mastered the art of executing a killing. Indrani read about how Palande had thrown a victim's chopped-up body in Chiplun and the parts were later found by the cops. That was when she decided that she would burn her victim's body as a precaution so that no evidence was left behind. (IN PICTURE: Indrani Mukerjea)
Sheena Bora's killing had the makings of a perfect murder until Indrani's driver spilled the beans about Sheena Bora. The Mumbai police arrest Indrani Mukherjea and Sanjeev Khanna based on driver Shyam Rai's confession. Rai was arrested in connection with an illegal arms case
During interrogation, Rai cracked and confessed to several other crimes, including the murder of Sheena. He told the police that he Indrani, along with Khanna murdered Sheena and dumped her body near a farmhouse in Raigad. The driver, Rai, said Indrani was the mastermind of the whole crime
Shyamvar Rai revealed chilling details of how Sheena Bora was murdered. Rai said that in April 2012, Indrani asked him to find places around Lonavla and Mumbai for dumping the bodies of Mikhail, whom she also planned to kill and Sheena. He said that Indrani went with him to look for places to dump the bodies and zeroed in on two spots, one near Khandala and another in Khopoli
On April 24, 2012, the day Sheena was murdered, Indrani bought six bottles of medicines, one of vodka and two small water bottles, Rai said. On reaching home she asked Rai to add the medicines to the liquor and water bottles. It was Indrani who gave the drug-laced water to Sheena when she arrived that evening. (IN PICTURE: Shyam Rai)
As they were moving in Bandra-Pali Hill area, "Sheena Bora was sitting in the car with eyes closed," Shyamvar Rai said. He added, "Indrani asked me to stop the car and Khanna (Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani's former husband, a co-accused) got up and sat on the rear seat (next to Sheena and Indrani)." He then saw Khanna grab Sheena's hair and Indrani strangle her. Indrani asked Rai to cover Sheena's mouth
According to Rai, Sheena Bora's body was taken home, stuffed in a bag and kept in the garage. The body was later taken to a spot near Pen (in Raigad district) where Khanna poured petrol on it and Indrani set it on fire
Sheena Bora murder case accused-turned-approver Shyamvar Rai said he feared for his life after deposing in court and identifying the accused Indrani Mukherjea, her current and ex-husband
Mikhail Bora, Indrani's son had earlier alleged that Indrani had spiked his drink with the intention of killing him as well on the same day when Sheena was killed. Mikhail had also said that Indrani had not only stopped all financial support to him and his grandparents, but she also ensured that he could not earn a living either. (IN PICTURE: Mikhail Bora)
CBI claimed that financial dispute was the reason for Indrani to hatch the conspiracy to murder Sheena. The victim was also in a relationship with her current husband Peter's son which Indrani did not approve of
Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, told a special CBI court in Mumbai on Wednesday that she was ready to undergo a lie-detector test. She submitted a handwritten application before special judge J C Jagdale, conveying her willingness to undergo a polygraph (commonly known as lie detector) test. Here are some twists in the Sheena Bora murder case
