Patralekhaa, who garnered applauds from critics for her performance in her debut City Lights, maybe just two films old but she has already captivated a good amount of fan following and her social media page is proof.
Born on February 20, 1990, Patralekhaa Paul hails from Shillong, Meghalaya, where she pursued her studies as well. Patralekhaa's father is a Chartered Accountant and he wanted her to become a CA, just like him. However, destiny had its own plans.
Patralekhaa was interested in acting since childhood. She used to also participate in drama competitions during her school and college days. At age 24, Patralekhaa made her Bollywood debut alongside Rajkummar Rao in Hansal Mehta's Citylights (2014).
Citylights was not only critically acclaimed but Patralekhaa's performance was also lauded by everyone. Patralekhaa won Screen Awards for Best Film (Debut) for Citylights.
Patralekhaa started dating her Citylights co-star Rajkummar Rao after the film. "I saw him for the first time on-screen when I watched LSD ('Love Sex Aur Dhokha'). I thought that the weird guy he played in the film was actually what he was like. My perception of him was already tarnished. He told me later, that he had first seen me in an ad and thought, 'I'm going to marry her'. It was so ironic," Patralekhaa said while looking back at the time when she met him for the first time.
Patralekhaa says they connected when they started talking about "work, our love for cinema, our passion". "I saw him through his struggles, never giving up. How could we not fall for each other? We wouldn't officially go on dates, but we would go for long drives, movies, or even sit at home and eat our hearts out. We would even accompany each other for auditions - silently seeping in support. It's all we needed - that understanding," said the actress.
She continued, "He would often go out of his way for me. Once, he was running late to see me, so he stopped the cab near the airport and ran all the way to Juhu!"
"Not only that, but when we were earning very little, he surprised me with my favourite bag, which was ridiculously expensive! Years later, when we were in London, someone stole it! I remember calling him, sobbing, while he tried to calm me down. For me, the bag was all about the memories - he had bought it for me when he didn't have much. That meant so much to me! Later, at our hotel, the exact same bag was waiting for me. These little things make me realise how lucky I am to have him," said Patralekhaa through a Facebook post on Humans of Bombay.
Rajkummar Rao had told Patralekhaa once that after she met Rao's mom, she told him, 'I have a feeling she's the last one I'm meeting'. Patralekhaa said, "I think she was right - we've been together for 8 years now. For us, we don't know what the future holds, but this, being together, is enough."
On the work front, in 2016, Patralekhaa was seen in Vikram Bhatt's erotic-thriller Love Games. Though it was a complete image makeover for the actress, as she was seen in quite a bold avatar, the film flopped at the Box Office.
Patralekhaa and Rajkummar again shared screen space in 2017. But this time around it was a Web Series called Bose - Dead/Alive, which was produced by Ekta Kapoor. Both of them got rave reviews for their performance in the web series.
