Superstar Salman Khan has become part of The Clean India mission and has joined forces with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and 'I love Mumbai' foundation to make Mumbai open defecation-free.
The actor visited a slum near Goregaon's Film City in Mumbai to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, accompanied by municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta and few BMC senior officials.
"This is just the beginning. We have rebuilt toilets in more than 3,000 houses and gave them water connections... We are taking care of it. We will try to get permissions to build toilets in the houses if they have space for it," Salman said.
Salman Khan was accompanied by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation chief (BMC) Ajoy Mehta and other senior officials from the civic body.
Salman Khan along with BMC chief Ajoy Mehta, and powered by Rahul Kanal's 'I love Mumbai' foundation, Sahib Realty and Sach Ishaan, handed over public utility toilets at Madras Pada, Aarey Milk colony, to the residents of the area to combat its open defecation problem.
"People listen to him and take it seriously. The Coporation is ready to do its best. I appeal to everyone to use toilets," Ajoy Mehta said.
The toilets that were inaugurated by Khan.
Ajoy Mehta expressed his gratitude to Salman Khan, who also paid for the utility toilets from his own pocket.
Salman Khan then took a small tour of the place where he was greeted by slum dwellers.
Presently, Salman is busy promoting his next film 'Tubelight'. Kabir Khan directed film is set to release this Eid.
