Amid the Lok Sabha Polls in India, voices to merge Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has grown louder. Time and again, India has remained resolute, calling entire Jammu and Kashmir including PoK as part of India. Meanwhile, anti-Pak protests in several regions of Pakistan’s illegally occupied Kashmir have rocked the neighbor. People in the region, particularly the younger generation, have confronted Pakistani forces on the streets. Clashes have also ensued between security personnel and protesters in Muzaffarabad, Dadyal, Mirpur, and other parts of PoK. Amid the unrest, Political Activist Amjad Ayub Mirza appealed to India to focus on PoJK as the situation is getting out of hand there. Taking a step ahead, he said that India must not follow the footsteps of previous regimes by ignoring PoJK. Earlier on April 04, EAM Jaishankar reiterated India’s stance and said “we will never accept that PoK is not an integral part of India”

Bids to disrupt peace continue in parts of Jammu and Kashmir amid Lok Sabha Elections. In a fresh encounter between security forces and terrorists in Udhampur, another VDG was killed on May 11. A massive search operation was launched while the area has been cordoned off following the gunbattle. Based on inputs from locals, one terrorist has been arrested and sketches of six suspects have been released. A bounty of Rs 5-10 lakhs has been announced for the locals on information of suspected individuals. Security has been heightened across the Union Territory amid LS Polls 2024 to thwart terror bids. Several encounters have taken place between security forces and terrorists in last few weeks in Kashmir. In April, a Rajouri resident was killed in a targeted attack and a few days later a VDG member was shot dead in Udhampur. Earlier this month, an IAF officer was killed in an ambush attack on their convoy by a group of terrorists. As per reports, several terrorists are still taking cover in the thick vegetation across the UT.

Former Pakistan Minister Fawad Chaudhry reacted to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Bail. Fawad Chaudhry termed it a loss of 'another battle' for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chaudhry’s response comes after Kejriwal was released from jail after spending over 50 days following his arrest.Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21, 2024 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. He has been granted interim bail till June 1 in Delhi Excise policy case with several conditions. Supreme Court barred him from visiting the Chief Minister’s Office or signing any official files. Former Pakistan Minister Fawad Chaudhry on May 04 praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He also praised Rahul Gandhi over Sam Pitroda’s pitch to conduct a Wealth Redistribution survey. As Lok Sabha Elections 2024 moves to the 4th phase, armed forces have activated an extreme-level security grid in Poonch for a straight 6th day in Jammu & Kashmir. An extensive search operation has been launched in J&K’s Poonch after a dastardly ambush attack on an IAF convoy on May 04. Equipped with high-end weapons, the Indian Army and SOG have been scanning thick dense forests in the region to flush out terrorists. Undeterred by adverse climate and high altitude, the security forces remain alert at a height of 6,000 feet. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until June 1. He is required to surrender on June 2. The court did not accept his lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi's, request to extend the bail until June 4. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate as part of a money laundering investigation linked to alleged irregularities in the scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on May 06 arrived in Chhindwara, the native place of slain IAF soldier Corporal Vikky Pahade, to attend his last rites. Vikky Pahade lost his life in the Poonch Sector after an IAF vehicle convoy was attacked by terrorists on May 04.While speaking to ANI, Mohan Yadav said, “Guard of Honour and State honours will be given to Corporal Vikky Pahade but no one can fill the personal loss. The mortal remains of Corporal Vikky Pahade were brought to Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara on May 06. The family members of deceased IAF personnel were in grief after hearing about the demise. However, there was a sense of pride amongst them that he had sacrificed his life for the nation.Corporal Vikky Pahade lost his life in a terror attack that happened in J&K’s Poonch on May 04.His sister said, “I want to send this message to the people of the country that every son should be dedicated to the country. I am proud of my brother. I want that justice should be served.” One of the members of his family said, “We got to know about it a day before yesterday. We were informed that he was shot and he has been airlifted to the hospital. Then later we got to know that he lost his life. This is a shock for the family as he was the only brother of three sisters.”

Slamming Pakistan over continuous cross-border terrorism, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on May 04 said that the neighbour will get an appropriate response adding that the Modi government will never make a compromise with the national security. Addressing an event in Bhubaneshwar, S Jaishankar said, “When it comes to national security, the Modi government will never make a compromise, it can be cross-border terrorism from Pakistan, it can be pressure on the border from China. It can be terrorism we had in the past from the Myanmar border before we did the land boundary agreement, even from Bangladesh.”
