Tens of thousands of people marching to the national capital, 378 days of protest, 11 rounds of talks, and loss of 700 lives. The farmers’ protest marked the longest agitation India, or perhaps the world, has seen in recent history. Sustaining the 15-month-long formidable protest, despite resistance from the police and government and criticism from some sections of society, required leaders from among the community to rise up to the occasion.
