PM Modi to visit Kaziranga National Park, says Assam CM Himanta Sarma

Speaking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming 2-day visit to Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 07 said that he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth Rs 20,000 crores. He also said that PM Modi is the first-ever Prime Minister to stay overnight in Kaziranga National Park. “PM Modi has come to Guwahati. He laid the foundation stone and inaugurated almost projects worth Rs 20,000 crores. After 20-30 days, he is again coming to Assam and giving us another Rs 20,000 crores. I have been in politics since 2001, and I have never seen this kind of investment in Assam...Without creating any investment conclave, we are having an investment of almost Rs 70,000-80,000 crores. So this is the best time for the people of Assam".

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking to the media on Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, said that when the INDIA alliance was formed, they told everyone that this is a short-lived alliance. He said, “When the INDIA alliance was formed, we told everyone that this is a short-lived alliance. This alliance will not last long because of ideological contradiction. Their only target was Prime Minister Narendra Modi. You cannot form an alliance only to oppose an individual. Today Prime Minister has become a world leader. He inspired the entire global community.” He added, “Wherever Rahul Gandhi goes, Congress will lose there. He is not inspiring and is so arrogant that he has no leadership qualities. He is a big star campaigner of the BJP.”

Political row sparks between NCP-BJP after Sharad Pawar's statement on Israel

Hitting out at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar for his remark on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that Pawar would send his daughter Supriya Sule to Gaza. Sarma's remarks came days after Sharad Pawar said that former Prime Ministers of India also “stood firmly with Palestine”. Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support for Israel as "unfortunate", the NCP chief said that he neglected the real issue. Pawar said "The entire land is of Palestine and Israel encroached on their land. That place, land and houses, everything was of Palestine and later Israel took over it. Israel is an outsider and the land is originally of Palestine." Pawar's remarks were condemned by the BJP. Earlier today, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said it is "very disturbing" when a senior leader like Sharad Pawar makes such "preposterous statements" NCP Leader Supriya Sule also responded to Himanta Biswa Sarma's statement.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa attacks Cong after Rahul Gandhi's Sewa at Golden temple

 Amid the ongoing tension in the country over ‘Khalistan’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to Golden Temple in Amritsar on Oct 02. The Congress leader paid obeisance at the temple and also offered ‘Sewa’ at the Golden Temple. Meanwhile, this brought a chance for the BJP leaders to pinch Congress over the 1984 ‘Operation Blue Star’. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma invoked ‘Operation Blue Star’ to mock Rahul Gandhi’s service as the auspicious temple. Talking to ‘X’, CM Himanta said, “Grandmother sprayed bullets and Grand child is doing sewa” Launching a scathing attack on Assam CM, Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely called it ‘Vinash Kale Viprit Buddhi’. On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army, under ‘Operation Blue Star’ stormed into the Golden Temple on orders of then PM Indira Gandhi. The order was issued to contain Sikh militancy under the leadership of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab. The Operation was heavily criticized and led to her assassination by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her New Delhi residence on October 31, 1984.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ‘Hussain Obama’ tweet sparks row

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comment on Barack Obama’s statement on minority rights in India stirred a controversy. In a tweet, he said there are many "Hussain Obamas" in the country and the state police will act according to its priorities. The Opposition was quick to hit back at the Assam chief minister. Sarma’s tweet was in response to a journalist’s tweet who posed a question asking if any FIR has been lodged against Obama for hurting religious sentiments. Congress spokesperson and social media head Supriya Shrinate was quick to attack Sarma on his tweet. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also reacted to Sarma's tweet. Meanwhile, Nirmala Sitharaman had attacked Obama too, stating that the US had bombed several countries with Muslim majority population and former Commisioner of US Religious Freedom Body said that we should spend more energy on complimenting India than criticizing.
