Another injury blow for Mumbai Indians as Kieron Pollard is ruled out for a week ahead of their today's IPL clash against Pune Warriors India

Pune: After a well below par performance for two and half weeks, Mumbai Indians have made a mini comeback in the IPL-V with back to back wins against Kings XI Punjab and Deccan Chargers.

These two wins have seen the Harbhajan Singh led side get into top-three of the points table, with seven more games to play. And as they did in the last game, MI would have to continue good work without their West Indian T20 star Kieron Pollard, for at least one more week.

Pollard, who has a shoulder injury, missed MI’s win against Deccan Chargers at home on April 29. “According to the medical reports and scans done, Pollard would be out for at least another week,” MI’s South African all-rounder Robin Peterson confirmed yesterday, on the eve of their away game against Pune Warriors India.

Pollard is not the only foreigner who is missing action due to injury. Throughout the tournament, MI have tried various opening combinations, with and without Sachin Tendulkar, with not much of a success.

Gibbs too injured
However, one guy, who has not featured in those combinations, is South Africa’s Herchelle Gibbs. The reason, which came into light for the first time this season, is that the right-hander broke his finger in the first week of IPL.

“Gibbs broke his finger in the first week, which was unfortunate. He is just starting to hit a few balls. We all know Gibbs’ ability in the T20 format, and if the team management chooses him in one of the coming games, I am sure he would be ready,” Peterson added.

The wicket at the Subrata Roy Sahara stadium here has had something for the spinners in each of the four games played so far. It might just be a perfect opportunity for MI skipper Harbhajan Singh to have something of substance in that wicket column. Will the offie take this opportunity to turn his fortunes, keep watching this space.
