Australia completed a 10-wicket win over New Zealand on day five of the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Australia completed a 10-wicket win over New Zealand on day five of the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington.

The Black Caps who resumed play on 6 for 369 were dismissed for 407 in their second innings, which meant Australia needed 106 for victory.


Aussie openers Phil Hughes (86*)and Simon Katich (18*) comfortably chased the target in 23 overs and two sessions to spare



Earlier in the day Brendon McCullum brought up his fifth Test century before being removed by Australia quick Ryan Harris on 104.

Harris took 4 for 77, while Nathan Hauritz took 3 for 119 and Doug Bollinger claimed 2 for 80.

Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke was judged the Man of the Match for his inspirational 168 in the first innings

The second and final Test will begin on Saturday in Hamilton.
