Mahendra Singh Dhoni's last-over six helped India post an exciting six-wicket win (via the D/L method) with one ball to spare over the West Indies in the third one-day international of the four-match series on Friday.
West Indies scored 186 for seven off their 27 overs and India had to achieve a 159-run target off 22 overs thanks to the rain.
Dhoni put behind the disappointment of losing Rohit Sharma in the second last over and slammed a sizzling six off Jerome Taylor's second ball of the final over to make matters easy for India. Dhoni would be delighted with his performance (46 not out) considering what he has been through ever since India crashed out of the ICC World T20 in England last month.
With Friday's win, India went 2-1 up in the series. The fourth and final match is scheduled for Sunday. India cannot lose the series now.
India won the first game by a 20-run margin at Sabina Park in Kingston only to lose the next one at the same venue by eight wickets.
"The Duckworth-Lewis method got us onto the back foot," said Dhoni at the presentation. "We weren't able to use the second powerplay. The openers started well, and the bowlers did a good job too. We rely on our openers to perform, and Gautam Gambhir was the sheet anchor today." Gambhir scored 44 before Dinesh Karthik departed for 47. Ramnaresh Sarwan top-scored for Chris Gayle's team with 62.
India have a chance to clinch their third one-day series win this year after triumphs in Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
