12 February,2026 11:28 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentIn the T20 World Cup 2026 match against Team India, Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Ben Shikongo will replace Willem Myburgh for the clash against the "Men in Blue". After winning the toss, Namibia skipper Erasmus said, "We’ve chosen to bowl first because the surface looks flat and true, ideal for setting things up with the ball. With dew likely to settle later, it makes sense to take advantage of early conditions. For us, it’s about sharpening our skills and building stronger partnerships when our turn to bat comes. The wicket looks excellent, and we’re here to play positive cricket and entertain the crowd. It’s always a privilege to play in India, where the atmosphere is fantastic. We’ve made two changes, bringing in an extra seamer—Ben Shikongo replaces Willem Myburgh". Abhishek Sharma, who was earlier hospitalised due to a stomach infection, will miss out on the clash. Sanju Samson will come in his place for tonight's clash. On the other hand, Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav said, "We were planning to bat first anyway, so the toss didn’t really affect us—winning games matters more than winning tosses. Defending a total is great preparation, especially in a long tournament where dew can significantly influence the second innings. Putting up a score and then backing our bowlers builds confidence and helps us understand different match scenarios. The pitch looks excellent, and I hope the batters enjoy themselves with such a lively crowd. Abhishek is still recovering and might need another game or two; Sanju replaces him, offering a similar explosive option. Bumrah also returns in place of Siraj, and with the fans cheering loudly, we’re eager to give them a memorable night—and personally, I’m loving my rhythm right now". 12 February,2026 06:04 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentNamibia is all set to lock horns with Team India in the T20 World Cup 2026 match, which is scheduled to be played on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Ahead of the game, Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus expressed disappointment for not getting a night training session before the India clash. He also said that, except for the players who have played in leagues such as the Nepal Premier League and ILT20, the players don't get the chance to train under the lights very often. "We haven't got any lights in Namibia. Infrastructure-wise, it's probably the challenge for us. So yeah, it's not a casual thing. Barring the guys who have played in the Nepal Premier League, ILT20 and the World Cups we have played, you don't get accustomed to lights and train under it very often," he said. Despite missing out on the night session, the skipper expressed confidence by saying that his team will do things in their "Namibian" way. "Yeah, we haven't been given night training before this game. I don't know why. I think India have two night trainings and I see outside that Canada are going to have a night training now. So make of that what you want, but we'll just rock up and do our Namibian way, which is to fight," said Erasmus. Currently, the "Men in Blue" are placed in the second position in Group A with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.450 and two points. On the other hand, Namibia is in fourth place with a net run rate (NRR) of -1.033. It will be interesting to see if Team India's Abhishek Sharma manages to make his appearance in the match. 12 February,2026 04:56 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentIn the T20 World Cup 2026 match against the West Indies, England suffered a loss by 30 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Speaking about the loss, England skipper Harry Brook said that the side was expecting the Wankhede pitch to improve, but it did not. He also said that the "Three Lions" were being very careful while chasing a target of 197 runs. "One thing I would say is we were probably a little bit careful. Chasing nearly 200 is always a big ask and like I said we didn't think - we thought the pitch would get a little bit better and it'd slide onto the bat a bit more and that didn't happen, but yeah - like I said we were probably a little bit careful, myself included," he said. Further speaking, he also admitted that England didn't execute their plans well with the ball. Despite the loss, he labelled the West Indies team as a powerful side. "We probably didn't execute as well as we usually can. We didn't quite execute well enough with the ball and they probably got 15, 20 too many. We thought it was chasable, definitely. We obviously planned for dew and it didn't quite get as dew as we thought, and it didn't quite slide onto the bat as much as we were expecting. But yeah, T20 cricket's such a fickle game and the West Indians are such a powerful side," said Brook. West Indies' Sherfane Rutherford was named as the "Player of the Match" for his explosive knock. Facing just 42 deliveries, he smashed an unbeaten 76 runs, including two boundaries and seven maximums. Gudakesh Motie also returned with the figures of three wickets for 33 runs in four overs. Roston Chase bagged two wickets by conceding 29 runs in four overs. Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd also chipped in with one wicket each. The victory also helped the side to secure the top spot in Group C with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.625 and four points. 12 February,2026 09:49 AM IST | Mumbai | A CorrespondentFormer India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come out in support of Pakistan’s Usman Tariq after the latter’s bowling action came under scrutiny during the T20 World Cup 2026, saying “why are the restrictions only limited to the bowler?” Tariq impressed with figures of 3-27 in Pakistan’s Group A win over the USA on Tuesday. Even football doesn’t allow players to pause during a penalty run-up anymore. How is this ok? Action - all good. But pause ? That too while loading to deliver. How is this ok? Action — all good. But pause? That too while loading to deliver. This can’t be continued seriously!” Goswami wrote on X. “Agree football doesn’t allow it! While the batter can be allowed to switch-hit or reverse without informing the umpire or bowler after him/her commits to start batting on one side, why are the restrictions only limited to the bowler?” Ashwin responded. 12 February,2026 09:46 AM IST | New Delhi | IANSNow that the suspense is over, India batter Tilak Varma on Wednesday said the team is excited for the high-pressure game against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup on February 15. Pakistan took a U-turn on boycotting the marquee clash against India in Colombo after pressure from the International Cricket Council and other member nations. "To be honest, we are very excited to play. We got to know that the match is going to take place day before. We are ready to play. We are watching all the teams. We are watching the bowlers and the batsmen. "All the players and team members are ready to play. Now, we are in the match zone. The planning will start," said Tilak on the eve of the Namibia game here on Thursday. India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had spoken about the advantage Pakistan have as they have been based in Sri Lanka for a while and would be playing all their games in that country. Talking more about the match, Tilak added: "We are going one by one in every match, so we will see, we have video analysis, we have the technology, so we will see how we are playing, how the wicket is behaving, we have already prepared, so everyone has different shots in their team, so the shots that we have to play in the wicket, the bowlers we have to target." 12 February,2026 09:27 AM IST | New Delhi | PTIGained two, lost one. That’s India’s scorecard heading into their second Group A fixture of the T20 World Cup. India’s build-up to their title defence has been anything but encouraging from an injury/illness perspective. Two days before the start of their campaign against United States, they lost promising paceman Harshit Rana for the entire tournament with a knee injury. They only had a complement of 13 — including Rana’s replacement, Mohammed Siraj — to choose from at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, with Jasprit Bumrah ill and Washington Sundar yet to join the team following a side injury. Having survived a mighty scare, India received a major boost ahead of their Thursday showdown against Namibia. Bumrah showed no signs of fatigue when he went full tilt at Tuesday’s full practice session, while Washington bowled and then batted to reiterate that he too was back at full fitness. On the flip side, though, India are set to miss explosive opener Abhishek Sharma, admitted to a Delhi hospital with a stomach infection before being discharged on Wednesday. On his World Cup debut, Abhishek was dismissed for a golden duck; any chance of hitting his straps against Gerhard Erasmus’s side ahead of the faceoff against Pakistan in Colombo on Sunday are minimal. Barring Suryakumar Yadav, India’s batters came a cropper against US and will try to make the best of what is expected to be a better batting surface to work their way back among the runs. Namibia, whose only previous T20I against India ended in a nine-wicket drubbing in Dubai at the 2021 World Cup, are coming off a seven-wicket loss to the Netherlands in their opener, also at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, though that was in a match which started at 11 am. Erasmus confirmed that his side, which doesn’t have lights to train under back home, couldn’t have even a single session under lights. By contrast, India practiced for two nights in a row and even Canada trained alongside the Indians on Wednesday night even though they have a 3 pm start against UAE on Friday. Bizarre much?
