David N'Gog got Liverpool's opener off a corner in the 14th minute. Raul Meireles sends the ball across only for Martin Skrtel to head it back into the six-yard box where David N'Gog having slipped away from his marker heads in from close range.
Two minutes the Merseysiders doubled their lead. Lucas, who received a pass 40 yards out, played a clever, deft chip into the path of Ryan Babel, who races past Stephen Warnock, lets the ball bounce over his shoulder to switch onto his preferred right side before firing a low strike past Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel and into the bottom right-hand corner from just inside the area.
Then, in the 55th Maxi Rodriguez made it 3-0. Rodriguez played in N'Gog on the left wing and continued his run into the penalty area only to receive a return pass and shoot into the far corner.
