Having received the support of banned captain MS Dhoni, reserve wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha is ready to fill the gloves. Except for the tour of the West Indies, Saha has been a part of India's Test squad for every overseas trip in the last two years.
The Bengal lad debuted in bizarre circumstances in Nagpur few years ago when Rohit Sharma suffered a freak injury on the morning of the Test. Saha had to be drafted into the XI as a specialist batsman. Tuesday's fourth and final Test against Australia will be his first as a wicketkeeper.
"I have the support of Mahibhai (MS Dhoni). I have been travelling with the team for a long period. Now that I have finally got an opportunity, I just want to do what I have learned right from my younger days. I remember my debut. It was under strange circumstances. But, I had told myself before the match that I would do whatever is needed ufffd bat, field or keep," Saha told reporters yesterday.
"I don't feel any extra pressure (about taking Dhoni's place). Right from my childhood I have played freely. Even when I play in India, be it a club game or state game, I take them similarly," he added.
Saha felt his previous experience of playing in Australia would hold him in good stead. "I had come here with the Emerging Players' team and it (bounce) wasn't any problem when it came to 'keeping or batting. I know what it takes to keep here. I am positive," said Saha.
