Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that defender Rio Ferdinand is likely to be sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Ferdinand picked up the injury during United's 2-1 Premier League victory over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

He limped out of the action after 75 minutes and was clearly in some discomfort.

"Rio will be six weeks," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

The 32-year-old is likely to miss home league games against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It also gives England manager Fabio Capello a headache, as it puts Ferdinand in doubt for the country's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales next month.

He could also be touch and go for the Group G crunch against Montenegro in early October.
