Manchester United legend Bobby Charlton u00a0netted a hat-trick as Manchester United romped to victory in the old Fairs Cup second round.

The game that gave rise to 19-year-old Best’s ‘El Beatle’ nickname. The Portuguese giants simply had no answer to Best’s dazzling skills.

The Belfast-born star scored twice, with Connelly netting the third as United cruised into a 3-0 lead after only 14 minutes at the Stadium of Light.u00a0Charlton and Pat Crerand added further goals after Shay Brennan had stuck one into his own net.
5-0 VS Strasbourg (May 12, 1965)
Another five-goal margin for United on their travels in the same Fairs Cup campaign. This time Law u00a0got two, with Charlton, John Connelly and Herd getting the others.

6-2 VS Brondby (Oct 21, 1998)
This time Danish champions Brondby — Peter Schmeichel’s former club — were the victims. Ryan Giggs scored twice and Andy Cole bagged another before the break.u00a0
