'We have to think about the combinations,' Rahane after KKR's defeat against CSK

The Chennai Super Kings beat the Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 runs to get their second win of the season. CSK scored 192 runs in their first innings before restricting KKR to 160 runs in the second innings. This win takes CSK above the Mumbai Indians in the league table with two wins in a row. Batting first, CSK scored 192 runs largely due to brilliant innings from Sanju Samson and Dewald Brevis. Samson scored 48 runs in 32 balls, and Brevis scored 41 runs in 29 balls to take CSK to a competitive total. In reply, KKR faltered from the powerplay, scoring just 32 runs in the first six overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghvanshi made a partnership of 50 runs but could not take the visitors to a victory.  Speaking after the win, KKR captain Ajinkya admitted that the batting let the team down. He further added that his team failed to get a partnership and lost control of the match. "I thought with the ball, we were treated really good. 190 on this wicket was really good, especially the power play what they got, 70 odd runs. After that, pulling back to 190 was an amazing job from our bowling unit. I thought initially with our batting, we just got 36 or 37 runs in the power play. I thought that was really important. Middle phase, to hitting spinners was slightly challenging, but apart from that, wicket was really good. We needed one batter to bat until deep and then take it in the end. (Talks about combination) I think combination wise, we thought the combination which we had last game and this was really good. I think it's tough at the moment. Yes, we're not winning matches, it's tough. What is important for all of us as a group to stay positive, keep our head up, keep our chin up, just focus on the moment. Yes, we'll have to sit in the dressing room, think about the combinations. We'll have to make any changes. Sometimes you bat with the players, the results are going your way, then it's okay. But if the results are not going your way, then you'll have to think about the combination. But apart from that, I thought it's all about being positive and keep our heads up. I think all credit goes to him. I mean, he's working really hard in the nets. He's been bowling really good and a great talent. The pace which he's bowling at the moment has been amazing. So I'm really happy for him. Game by game, he's improving his skills. Yeah, all three spinners. We just have to, as I said, keep that head up and just be positive and have that self-belief." Rahane said. CSK scored 192 in the first innings The Chennai Super Kings posted 192 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of their 20 overs against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Dewald Brevis and Sanju Samson starred for the hosts in the first innings. CSK got off to a good start with the in-form Sanju Samson scoring runs again. The Indian star opener scored a century in the last match and continued his good form with another quickfire 48 runs in 32 balls.  After Ruturaj Gaikwad's early dismissal, Ayush Mhatre attacked the KKR bowlers from the first ball and scored 38 runs in just 17 balls. Later, Dewald Brevis scored 41 runs in 29 deliveries to take CSK to 192/5 after 20 overs.  For KKR, Kartik Tyagi was the best bowler with the figures of 2/35 after his four overs. Sunil Narine impressed as well with 1/21 runs in his four overs.

IPL 2026: KKR struggle at 36/2 after 6 overs chasing CSK’s 192

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) got off to a slow start while chasing Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) total of 192. KKR lost early wickets and could only manage 36/2 at the end of six overs. In a change in the batting order, Sunil Narine opened the innings with Finn Allen. However, the partnership did not last long as Allen departed for just one run. The Kiwi opener was caught by Shivam Dube while attempting to accelerate the scoring. Soon after, Narine was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed for 24 runs off 17 balls. Although the West Indian all-rounder provided a brisk start, he failed to convert it into a substantial innings. At the end of the powerplay, KKR were struggling at 36/2, having failed to capitalise on the fielding restrictions. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi were at the crease, looking to rebuild the innings and chase down the target of 193. For CSK, Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj picked up a wicket each. The spells from Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad are expected to be crucial as the hosts aim to secure their second win of the season, having beaten the Delhi Capitals in their previous match. CSK post 192/5 in first innings Earlier, the Chennai Super Kings posted 192/5 in their 20 overs against the Kolkata Knight Riders, with Dewald Brevis and Sanju Samson leading the charge. CSK got off to a solid start, with Samson continuing his fine form. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter, who scored a century in the previous match, followed it up with a quickfire 48 off 32 balls. After Ruturaj Gaikwad’s early dismissal, Ayush Mhatre counter-attacked from the outset, scoring 38 runs off just 17 balls. Later, Brevis contributed 41 runs off 29 deliveries to take CSK to a competitive total. For KKR, Kartik Tyagi was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 2/35 from his four overs. Narine also impressed with the ball, returning economical figures of 1/21 in his quota.

IPL 2026: CSK race to 72/2 in 6 overs against KKR; Ayush Mhatre stars with 38

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got off to a flying start against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), racing to 72 for the loss of two wickets at the end of the powerplay. The strong start was driven by an aggressive batting display from Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre. Sanju Samson, fresh from a century in the previous match, provided early momentum. The Indian opener scored 23 off 13 balls by the end of the sixth over. He was well supported by Ayush Mhatre, who emerged as the standout performer for CSK. Mhatre took charge against the KKR bowlers, attacking from the outset. The 18-year-old smashed 38 runs off just 17 balls, as the Samson–Mhatre partnership added 47 runs in only 22 deliveries. However, Mhatre was caught at deep mid-wicket off the final ball of the powerplay, handing KKR a much-needed breakthrough. With a strong batting line-up featuring players like Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis still to come, CSK will look to build on the solid foundation and post a big total. For KKR, Anukul Roy was the only bowler to pick up a wicket, dismissing CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for 7 runs. Earlier, Gaikwad lost the toss and said he would have preferred to bowl first, but expressed satisfaction with how the pitch has played so far. CSK are aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this season following their victory against Delhi Capitals in the previous match. “Yes, we would have bowled first as well. But as I said, the wicket hasn’t changed much throughout the game, so there isn’t much of a difference. Putting a big total on the board in the first innings will be challenging, but it looks like a really good surface,” Gaikwad said. Confirmed playing XI for both teams: Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane(c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi(w), Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Ayush Mhatre, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed

IPL 2026: Ajinkya Rahane wins the toss, KKR elect to bowl against CSK

The Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bowl first against the Chennai Super Kings. The two teams are set to face off at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. KKR are at the bottom of the table with just one point, while CSK are second from bottom with 2 points on the board. After winning the toss, Ajinkya Rahane said he would bowl first. The KKR skipper added that he hopes that his team can bounce back from the disappointment of the last match. "Looking to bowl first. I think the last game was really good for us. Unfortunately, the result didn't go our way. But I thought the kind of cricket we played, guys are getting that confidence from the last game. It's all about starting fresh. It's important when things are not going your way, it's important to have that belief, stay positive and have those small, small moments in T20 format is really important. So, now looking forward to this game, we'll start off really well with the ball and then look to chase down the target. The combination looked really good for us in the last game. So, yeah, thinking about this game and just wanted to be in the moment. Tonight, just one change for us. Varun Chakaravarthy is fit. He's come in in place of Navdeep Saini." Rahane said. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said that he was looking to bowl first, too. The Indian star admitted that it was nice to get the first win of the season last time out against the Delhi Capitals. "Yes, we would have bowled first as well. But as I said, you know, the wicket hasn't changed much throughout the course of the game. So not much of a difference. Definitely putting a big total on the scoreboard in the first innings will be challenging, but as I said, you know, it looks a really good surface. Yes, as I said, even in the post-match as well, I felt the bowling was really good defending 210, you know, against a strong DC side. Gave us a lot of confidence, and you know, even the fielding unit was charged up. We saved a few runs, and that is how I think collectively we did really well. Really exciting today as well." Gaikwad said. Confirmed playing XI for both teams: Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane(c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi(w), Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Ayush Mhatre, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed

Shane Warne's son says COVID vaccines caused legend's death

Jackson, Shane Warne's son, has claimed that the spin legend's death was most likely brought on by the "three or four" COVID vaccines that he was "forced to take for work," four years after his death shocked the cricket community. However, Jackson also acknowledged his father's underlying health problems when speaking on the "2 Worlds Collide podcast." In 2022, Warne passed away in Thailand at the age of 52 following a heart attack. "I definitely think that it (COVID vaccine) was involved. I don't even think saying that is controversial anymore. Even if dad had underlying health issues, I think this brought it out right to the surface, and that's one thing that I've always struggled with," Jackson said. "My first impression, as soon as I hung up the phone (after receiving the news of Warne's death), I instantly blamed the government. I instantly blamed COVID and the vaccine." Jackson claimed that throughout the memorial service, he could not contain his true feelings. "It was probably smart I didn't, I would be in a very different position if I did. But that was how I felt," Jackson said. "Yes, a lot of people were dying of heart attacks before. But dad was okay, I think he might have got three or four (vaccine doses), he didn't want to get them, he was forced to get them for work. He was forced to get them like everybody else," he added. "I try not to think about it too much because all that does is fester into anger. That anger is not good for anybody," he said. Jackson Warne opens up about his dad's lifestyle Giving an insight into the lifestyle of his father, who was known to be indulgent, Jackson said it was relatively healthy despite the smoking and drinking."Dad, at the time, was healthy; he was happy. He looked the best he had in a while. Yes, he smoked and drank, but so many more people in their 80s and 90s still smoke and drink a lot more than dad," he said. A few months before his passing, Warne had caught COVID while coaching at The Hundred in England in 2021. However, at the time of his death, he was not known to have any serious illness. IPL 2026: Praful Hinge reveals Hardik Pandya's message to him during VHT

In the IPL 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious by 57 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. In the second essay of the game, SRH's Praful Hinge returned with the figures of four wickets for 34 runs in four overs. Recollecting the time when he faced Hardik Pandya during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the youngster revealed the message passed to him by the star all-rounder. "When I was bowling to him, I was quite nervous because everyone knows what kind of batsman Hardik bhai is and what he can do. But after the first ball, the nerves settled, and I told myself I could bowl without taking undue pressure. I kept reminding myself to bowl my best delivery every ball. Yorkers are my go-to deliveries; I’ve practised them the most," he said. "I bowled good yorkers to him and mixed in a few bouncers as well. After taking a single, he came up to me and said, ‘Praful bhai, well bowled.’ That gave me a huge boost. After the match, I met him again and he said, ‘You’re doing well, just keep at it. I will see you in the IPL," added Hinge. In an attempt to chase a target of 217 runs, the Royals were bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs. Following the win, SRH is placed in the fourth position with two wins and three defeats. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +0.576 and four points. On the other hand, despite suffering the loss, RR is still at the top of the table with a net run rate (NRR) of +0.899 and eight points. They have won four matches and suffered one loss. Mitchell McClenaghan says CSK must bring MS Dhoni in as an 'Impact Player'

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to lock horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2026 match on Tuesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ahead of the match, former New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan feels CSK should bring in MS Dhoni as an Impact Player to make the best use of his batting abilities. "If MS Dhoni is fit, then CSK should bring him in as the Impact Player. If the team management feels they need a short burst of runs from him, especially when they are chasing, then bringing him in as the Impact Sub will allow them to make the best use of his batting abilities. Playing as an Impact Player will mean he may not have to do a lot of running. He can just come in, smack the ball into the stands and do his job of finishing in style," he said on Star Sports. The former cricketer also stated that Dhoni's inclusion will strengthen CSK's lower middle order. "His aggressive stroke-making ability will come in handy for Chennai when they are chasing big scores. I think that is a good way to get Dhoni back into the groove. His presence will really give a lot of strength to the lower middle order of CSK," said McClenaghan. It will be interesting to see if Dhoni makes his appearance for the clash against the Knight Riders. Sanjay Bangar heaps praise on Ishan Kishan after 91-run knock against RR

In the IPL 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious by 57 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. During the match, SRH's skipper Ishan Kishan delivered a knock of 91 runs off just 44 deliveries, laced with eight boundaries and six maximums. Speaking about his knock, former Team India cricketer Sanjay Bangar said that it was a pure display of class. "The way Ishan Kishan attacked Jofra Archer in the first six balls was a pure display of class. He got behind the line of the ball, moved across the crease very confidently, and was very precise with his footwork. As a batter, you know when you're in for a special night and that was clear in his first six to eight balls," he said on Star Sports. The former cricketer also said that the left-handed batsman played every shot on the merit of the ball and the target of 217 runs was out of RR's reach. "He played everything on the merit of the ball and looked totally composed. Ishan Kishan's aggressive brand of cricket meant that SRH could get to a score which, in hindsight, was way beyond Rajasthan Royals' reach," added Bangar. Hinge, Hussain earn praise from Aaron after stunning bowling display against RR

In the IPL 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious by 57 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. In the second essay of the match, SRH's Praful Hinge, and Impact Player, Sakib Hussain, bagged four wickets each to their names. Having bowled four overs, Hinge conceded 34 runs, whereas Hussain leaked 24 runs in his spell of four overs. Reflecting on their match-winning performances, Hyderabad's pace bowling coach Varun Aaron said that it was a dream come true moment for the team. "To see two debutants come out and bowl the way they did tonight was a dream come true for the team," he said. He also said that the game plan was to stay committed to the execution and labelled their performances as "massive". "The key was for us to just commit to our execution and that's exactly what we did right from the get-go. My only plan for them was just to enjoy the game. Because you debut only once in any form of cricket and I feel from where they have come, both the bowlers, and what they have done today is massive," said Aaron. 'You could see he wasn't fully satisfied...': Harbhajan Singh on Virat Kohli

In the IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerged victorious by 18 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. During the match, stalwart Virat Kohli scored 50 runs in 38 balls. His knock was laced with five boundaries and a maximum. Reflecting on his knock, former Team India cricketer Harbhajan Singh said that the right-handed batsman was not fully satisfied despite scoring a half-century, but he played a crucial role. "Virat Kohli's half-century came at a slightly slower pace. You could see he wasn't fully satisfied, especially with the way Phil Salt was scoring at the other end. But his role was crucial. He ensured there were no early wickets and provided stability at the top," he said on JioHotstar. Further speaking the former cricketer said that Kohli allowed Rajat Patidar and Phil Salt to play their natural game, and also made sure to capitalise on other bowlers whenever there was an opportunity. "While players like Rajat Patidar and Salt played more aggressively, Kohli anchored the innings and allowed them to play their natural game. Against someone like Jasprit Bumrah, he was very cautious and played him intelligently, but he made sure to capitalise on the other bowlers whenever there was an opportunity," said Harbhajan. Following the win, RCB is placed in the third position on the points table. With three wins and one loss, the Rajat Patidar-led team has a net run rate (NRR) of +1.148 and six points.
