It came as a surprise when the selectors did not name wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, in place of the injured MS Dhoni for the remaining two ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Sandeep Patil & Co picked Robin Uthappa, who was ignored for the three ODIs and the India 'A' match against Sri Lanka.

"Nothing is wrong with Saha, but we wanted to give a chance to other players and test them before the World Cup.

Saha is a very good wicketkeeper," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said. "We discussed strategies for the World Cup and who we wanted to try. It was decided to try and test (the fringe players) in the last two ODIs," he added.

The selectors also brought back Rohit Sharma after a two-month injury lay-off and decided to rest opener Shikhar Dhawan for the two ODIs.

Patel said Ishant Sharma, who was ruled out of stiff back after bowling just four overs in the third ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday, will be under the observation by the Indian team's physio.

"He will travel with the team so the physio can take care of him. He will only train with the team, but won't be considered for any matches," said Patel.
