After being accused of match-fixing, Pakistan all-rounder Rana Naved is now under the scanner for allegedly tampering with the ball during the ongoing National Twenty20 Championship here.

The Karachi City Cricket Association confirmed to PTI that it had sent a letter to the Pakistan Cricket Board outlining its concerns over some poor umpiring and Rana's ball tampering during a match between Karachi Zebras and Sialkot Stallions.

The KCCA has called for an impartial inquiry into the issues they have raised after Sialkot beat Karachi Zebras by four runs in a match on February 28 and were knocked out of contention for semifinals.

Rana, who has played nine Tests and 75 one-dayers, could find himself in trouble as well-placed sources said another team had also complained about his ball-tampering habits to the match-referee.

"Apart from the KCCA complaint, Ishtiaq Ahmed one of the match referees has also apparently mentioned Rana's ball tampering habits in his report to the board," a source disclosed.

In the letter sent to the board by the KCCA it has written: "We also request you to conduct an inquiry into ball tampering committed by Rana Naved with his nails which was also ignored by the umpires."

"We do not wish to wash dirty linen in public or make it a public issue but we hope you will conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter," the KCCA has written to the board.

The Twenty20 championship has generated not only plenty of interest from the public but some controversy as well as Rana has swung the ball prodigiously in the tournament.

In the last two days of the competition umpires have been seen strictly checking condition of the ball after every few overs indicating that the ball tampering issue has been taken notice of by the board.

Rana was recently named in a Voice of America report as one of the two Pakistani players, the other being Kamran Akmal, who are under investigation for match fixing by the board. The PCB later denied any current player was under investigation for match fixing.

Rana has said he has always played clean cricket and would be seeking legal action against the people who named him as a match-fixing suspect.
