Mumbai's star batsman Shreyas Iyer, who missed out the Ranji Trophy opener against Tamil Nadu due to injury, has fully recovered and is set to feature in today's fixture against Baroda in New Delhi.
Iyer, who was the top scorer (1321 runs in 11 games) in the last season, has set a target of achieving a thousand runs ahead of his first match of the ongoing domestic season. "I am fully fit now and am ready to face the Baroda bowling attack. I have set a target of one thousand runs. I will try to reach it as close as possible," Iyer told mid-day yesterday.
Along with Iyer, pacer Roystan Dias was also included in the Mumbai Ranji squad for the second round tie in Group 'A'. The 21-year-old Iyer made it clear that the Baroda attack comprising skipper Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel was not new for him. "I played them (Irfan and Munaf) before so I am not thinking about it too much," he added.
Iyer, who picked up the injury during the tour of Australia where he was part of the India 'A' side, felt bad to have missed out on Mumbai's first match. "I wanted to start from the first match of the season. But nonetheless we won the match. Though I was at the Mumbai Cricket Association's BKC academy during that match, I followed it closely. I hope we continue to win this one too," Iyer signed off.
