Rohit Sharma will not get over his World Cup snub soon, says the Mumbai batsman's childhood coach
Frustration might be an understatement for what Rohit Sharma may be going through at the moment. The right-handed Mumbai middle-order batsman was excluded from the 15-man World Cup squad announced yesterday.
Lad hasn't yet spoken to his ward, who is in South Africa for the ODI series, but said it won't be easy for Sharma to get over the snub. "I am shocked that he was omitted from the squad. I thought he would surely make the cut. I don't think he will come out of this shock soon," Lad revealed.
Inconsistent
Close buddies Virat Kohli and Sharma were the two leading contenders for a middle-order berth.
However, Sharma's inconsistency may have been a factor that went against him. He managed to score only 286 runs in the last five series (15 matches).
Sharma was rewarded with a place in the ODI series against SA after a good showing in the Ranji Trophy, but he is yet to make an impression. Scores of nine and 11 from the first two ODIs didn't do any good to improve his stake.
However, all is not lost for Sharma. Skipper MS Dhoni said at a media conference that players left out could be selected if anyone gets injured.
Lad said the onus is now on Sharma. "I hope he stays in a positive frame of mind. These setbacks will only spur him to play better," he said.
