Silva was fielding at short leg when a shot from Dinesh Chandimal hit him on the back of his head. “Initial CAT scans suggested Silva was out of danger, but he will continue to be monitored as a precautionary measure. Silva was wearing a helmet with additional padding, a design which came into use after Phillip Hughes’ death, at the moment of impact,” reported the website.

According to team manager Charith Senanayake, Silva was dazed after the impact and showed symptoms which one would connect to a concussion. Silva was first taken to a Kandy hospital for a CAT scan before he was transferred to Colombo. The practice match is part of Sri Lanka's preparation for the forthcoming tour of England.
