Mumbai Indians became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the third edition of the Indian Premier League yesterday, something which they could not achieve in 2008 and 2009.
Skipper Sachin Tendulkar said the difference this season has been having a fully-fit squad. "In the first two seasons, we did not have our full squad. In the first season, Lasith Malinga didn't play. I did not play the first seven games.
"In the second season, Zaheer Khan was injured and a few other key batsmen were not available. So, that put a lot of load on our team. This season we have been at full strength except that Ambati Rayudu missed a few matches due to injury. Touch wood, it feels nice to have a full squad," said Tendulkar.
The Mumbai skipper said everything worked to plan during his team's 37-run win over Rajasthan Royals.
"It was challenging at the start and in the middle too there was a phase where we were required to play with patience and plan our innings," Tendulkar said.
"In the last two-three overs, we needed to play some big shots and they came off. It all helped us get to a competitive total and we are happy to qualify for the semis," he added.
It was Tendulkar's fifth half-century of the tournament and after his unbeaten 89, he is the leading run-getter in the IPL.
However, he dismissed talk of being termed as the 'King of T20' as well. "I don't play cricket to prove anything to anybody. I play cricket because I enjoy doing it. It is good that in Twenty20 cricket also, I have been able to perform well and the team has won and qualified. It's a good coincidence," Tendulkar said.
