As an ambassador for the Italian automaker, Warne arranged a bright new yellow car for the man who annihilated hosts Australia in the Adelaide Test earlier this week. Pietersen picked up the $475,000 Gallardo LP560-4 in Chapel St yesterday.

"This is Warnie's patch and when I'm in town, he looks after me," Pietersen said.

"Just the same as Sachin (Tendulkar) does in Mumbai or (Sourav) Ganguly in Kolkata."

Pietersen is not playing the tour match against Victoria beginning tomorrow, and plans to take the car for a spin today along the Great Ocean Rd. KP said he was familiar with driving sports cars: "I drive a Range Rover Riviera sports and have driven Ferraris," he said.

The England batsman was in a bubbly mood after the win in the Adelaide Test.
