Vijay Hazare Trophy: Ishan Kishan slams 33 ball century against Karnataka

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is knocking on BCCI's doors ahead of India's squad announcement for the New Zealand ODI series after blasting a 33-ball century for Jharkhand against Karnataka in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Kishan's blazing ton is the second-fastest by an Indian in List A cricket, just one delivery behind Bihar captain Sakibul Gani's record 32-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh, which also happened earlier on Wednesday. Just last week, Kishan earned a recall to the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, days after leading Jharkhand to its maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. Kishan's recent form has been impressive, with 517 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, including a match-winning century in the final against Haryana. He finished with 125 runs off just 39 deliveries and struck seven fours and 14 sixes in the game against Karnataka at a strike rate of 320.51. Karnataka won the toss and opted to field. Jharkhand had a shaky start as opener Utkarsh Singh was removed for just eight runs. Shubh Sharma also departed early as Shreyas Gopal cleaned him up for 15. Shikhar Mohan played a decent innings of 44 before Abhilash Shetty removed him in the 24th over. From there, Virat Singh and Kumar Kushagra took forward Jharkhand's innings, stitching a partnership of 129 runs for the fourth wicket before Kushagra was removed by Gopal for 63. Singh soon followed him back to the pavilion after making 88 runs in just 68 runs. Kishan gave Jharkhand the finishing touch to the innings with a 33-ball century, which powered Jharkhand to 412-9 in their 50 overs.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Virat milestone: Kohli one run away from 16,000 List A runs

India's pioneer batter Virat Kohli is on the cusp of a significant achievement, needing just one more run to become the second Indian batter, after legendary Sachin Tendulkar, to reach 16,000 runs in List A cricket. He's racking up the runs so far: he's scored 15,999 runs in 342 List A matches at an average of 57.34, with 57 centuries and 84 fifties. Kohli can achieve this feat in Delhi's Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture against Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, where he will make a much-anticipated return to the tournament in the 2025/26 season, marking his comeback to India's premier domestic 50-over competition after nearly 15 years. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will serve as valuable match practice ahead of the New Zealand series, kicking off January 11. Kohli is heading into the tournament in blazing form, having smashed four fifty-plus scores in his last four ODI appearances - including back-to-back tons against South Africa in the first two ODIs and an unbeaten 65 in the third ODI, which sealed India's 2-1 series win. Kohli also had a brilliant year in international cricket, scoring 651 runs in 13 innings at an average of 65.10, with three centuries and four fifties, including a best of 135, and a strike rate over 96. Coming to the Delhi vs Andhra Pradesh match, Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first. Vijay Hazare Trophy: Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripts history with List A century

At 14 years and 272 days, Bihar sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player to hit a century in men's List A cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 Plate League fixture against Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday. It is Vaibhav's first non-T20I ton in senior cricket, which came in just 36 deliveries. This was the teenager's seventh List A game, after debuting against Madhya Pradesh in December 2025. Suryavanshi also became the second fastest List A centurion by Indians after a 35-ball hundred by Anmolpreet Singh, who hit against Arunachal Pradesh in 2024. The elite list includes Yusuf Pathan (40-ball century), Urvil Patel (41-ball hundred) and Abhishek Sharma (42-ball ton). Additonally, Suryavanshi shattered former South African cricketer AB de Villiers' record for the fastest 150 in men's List A cricket. The 14-year-old Suryvanshi slammed reached the 150-run mark in 59 deliveries, surpassing de Villiers' 64-ball milestone against the West Indies in 2015. Suryvanshi departed after scoring 190 runs off 84 deliveries with the help of 16 fours and 15 sixes at an astounding strike rate of 226.19. Earlier, Suryavanshi, who is in line to feature in India's Under-19 World Cup campaign in Zimbabwe and Namibia, hammered a 95-ball 171 earlier this month at the Under-19 Asia Cup in the UAE. During that knock, the left-handed batter fell just six short of Ambati Rayudu's long-standing India record in youth one-dayers - the 177 against England in Taunton back in 2002. In 15 youth ODIs, Suryavanshi averages 51.13, with two centuries and three half-centuries, at an impressive strike rate of 158.79. According to ESPNcricinfo, Suryavanshi is likely to be available for the first few matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, before he joins the India Under-19 squad for a conditioning camp in Bengaluru before the team's departure to Zimbabwe for the World Cup starting January 15. Star bowler Jofra Archer is out of the final two Ashes tests for England

England bowler Jofra Archer ruled out for the remaining two Ashes tests due to a left side strain, a team official confirmed Wednesday.  The 30-year-old Archer have been battling a variety of fitness issues, including stress fractures of the back and right elbow, had made a promising return to red-ball cricket earlier this season and was one of England’s standout performers in the Ashes. It is a huge disappointment for Archer, who spent years battling elbow and back injuries in order to return to Test cricket.  His most impactful performance came in the third Test at Adelaide, where he registered figures of five for 53 in the first innings and also contributed a vital 51 runs with the bat. Despite joining the squad at training at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, Archer did not take part in practice, and a team spokesperson later confirmed he would take no further part in the tour.  England will now be without one of their most experienced pace options as they prepare for the fourth Test, which begins on Friday at the MCG, followed by the fifth Test in Sydney starting January 4. Australia currently lead the five-match series 3-0 and have already retained the Ashes.  Gus Atkinson will replace Archer into the playing XI for the Melbourne Test. England has also made changes in the batting line up; Jacob Bethell has replaced No. 3 Ollie Pope for the Melbourne test. Pope is strugling at an average of 20.83 with the bat for the series.  Despite off-field controversy, opener Ben Duckett has retained his place in the side. Duckett has been under observations following the emergence of footage allegedly showing him intoxicated between the second and third Tests.  The left-hander continues to play XI, despite managing only 16 runs on average in the series so far. England playing XI for fourth Test Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith, Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue.  (Inputs from AP)

Oz skipper Cummins out of Ashes; T20 WC in doubt

Australia skipper Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon were on Tuesday ruled out of the final two Ashes Tests against England with the former also in doubt for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, which begins in February. Cummins “won’t play any part in the rest of the series,” coach Andrew McDonald told cricket.com.au. He returned from a lower back injury to lead Australia to victory in Adelaide, taking six wickets in the match. “We’ve now won the series, [so] to position him for further risk is not something we want to do,” added McDonald. In a separate interview with ESPN, McDonald further went on to state that Cummins’s participation in the T20 World Cup was by no means a certainty. “Looking forward to the World Cup, whether he will be there or not, I can’t really say. It’s quite grey at the moment,” said McDonald. Replacing Cummins and Lyon in the squad for the Melboure Test are pacer Jhye Richardson and off-spinner Todd Murphy. Ashes hangover? England investigates players beach drinking

England managing director Rob Key pledged on Tuesday to investigate whether players’s drinking on a mid-Ashes beach break went too far, after reports said it had been like a “stag-do.”  The England team headed to Queensland tourist playground Noosa after heavily losing the first two Tests in Perth and Brisbane. They spent several days on the sand and around restaurants and bars, followed by TV crews, photographers and reporters before travelling to Adelaide where they lost the third Test and the Ashes. Rob Key Britain’s Daily Telegraph reported that ‘after drowning their sorrows after the Brisbane Test, it is no exaggeration to say some, certainly not all, players drank for five or six days.’ It added that players ‘did nothing outrageous in Noosa,’ bAustralia, England, Australia vs England, Aus vs Eng, Aus vs Eng live, Ashes, Ashes series, Ashes Test, Test cricket, Cricket News, Latest Cricket News, Cricket latest news, Cricket News Today, Cricket match news, Sports News, Latest Sports News, Live Sports Updates, latest sports update, sports news headlines, Sports News, Trendingut there was concern over the level of drinking, with England’s professionalism already under question after their limited preparations.  “If there’s things where people are saying that our players went out and drank excessively, then of course we’ll be looking into that,” Key told English media in Melbourne ahead of the Boxing Day Test.  “Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol for an international cricket team is not something that I’d expect to see at any stage. It would be a fault not to look into what happened there. [But] from everything that I’ve heard so far, they actually were pretty well behaved,” added Key, who did not travel with the team to Noosa.  He admitted that he did not mind players having the occasional drink, but “if it goes past that, then that’s an issue as far as I’m concerned. I have no issue with the Noosa trip if it was to get away and just throw your phone away, down tools, go on the beach, all of that stuff. If it goes into where they’re drinking lots and it’s a stag-do, all of that type of stuff, that’s completely unacceptable,” he added. PCB to complain to ICC over Indian players’ conduct in U-19 Asia Cup final

Accusing the Indian players of provocative behaviour during the Under-19 Asia Cup final, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that he intends to “formally inform” the ICC about it. Pakistan beat India by 191 runs in the final of the continental tournament in Dubai on Sunday. Players from both sides were seen engaged in verbal altercations during the game and the two teams also did not shake hands before and after the match. “Indian players kept provoking Pakistani players during the Under-19 APCBsia Cup final. Pakistan will formally inform the ICC about the incident. Politics and sports should always be kept separate,” Naqvi said at a reception hosted by PM Shehbaz Sharif.
